The Lunar New Year celebration has begun at the Disneyland Resort. Centered in Disney California Adventure, this is a celebration that honors the Chinese, Korean, and Vietnamese cultures and their traditions. This year is the Year of the Horse. Because of this, Horace Horsecollar is getting the spotlight shown on him. He can be seen in Disney California Adventure wearing a new outfit that was made specifically for this year’s celebration. It is inspired by what is worn for the Chinese New Year. This is a beautiful outfit with some specific and intentional details woven into it. Be sure to take note of them when you see him. The team that creates the costumes really worked hard to make costumes that represent and honor the traditions that are being celebrated during this celebration.

For guests who want to see Horace Horsecollar in this new outfit, there are a couple of different options. First off, he can be seen riding on the back of a specially decorated tricycle in Mulan’s Lunar New Year Procession. This procession makes its way through Disney California Adventure daily (weather permitting). It comes out near Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and then heads up through the park, ultimately departing and exiting the park at the end of the route near Paradise Gardens Park.

Guests can also meet Horace Horsecollar throughout the run of the Lunar New Year celebration. He is meeting near San Francisco Street near the Grizzly River Run Water Wheel. There is a photo op set up for guests to meet with Horace. When Horace isn’t meeting, guests might meet Goofy and Clarabelle or Donald Duck and Daisy Duck.

Horace Horsecollar first appeared in The Plowboy in 1929. Despite being a horse, Horace was known to be a bit of a ham. In the early years, he could sometimes be seen walking upright, and at other times, in a more traditional horse form, on all fours. For many years, he didn’t have a consistent voice. However, with the production of The Prince and the Pauper, voice actor Bill Farmer remedied this. He based his performance for Horace on actor Jim Backus and writer Ben Stein. This became the official voice of Horace, with Bill Farmer remaining as the actor who supplied it. In recent years, Horace has experienced a resurgence in popularity among fans, making appearances on screens and in parks.

There are many more exciting things to check out during the Lunar New Year celebration at Disney California Adventure beyond Horace, however. There is also a fantastic lineup of food, merchandise, entertainment, and decor to enjoy throughout the run of the celebration. This is a special festival that is full of heart and happiness for this annual celebration. It will continue through February 22, 2026.
