There has been some speculation as of late regarding The Beatles and what they have in store. There have been some teases that hinted an announcement. Today, the announcement was made. The Beatles will be releasing Anthology and along with a documentary series on Disney+.
The Anthology will see the additional release of Anthology 4 for LP, CD, and digital music packages. This will include 13 previously unreleased demos and session recordings, along with other outtakes that had already been included with The Beatles deluxe editions in recent years. The documentary series will include a newly assembled ninth episodes. This will join the original eight episodes that were first aired in 1995.
The Beatles Anthology book will also be getting a re-release. It will be released in a softcover 25th anniversary edition. It won’t have any additional photos or text beyond what was a part of the original 2000 release. It will be a commemorative book, however, celebrating 25 years since the original was released.
The three releases will all be arriving this fall. First will be the book, which will arrive in theaters on October 14, 2025. This will be followed by the music being released on November 21, 2025. This will be a week before Black Friday and include vinyl, cd, digital downloads, and also on streaming services. The expanded music collection will be released as the Anthology and be available as an eight-CD set, a 12-LP vinyl set, along with digital editions. In total there will be 191 tracks. The new Anthology 4 will include 36 of these tracks. The additions were curated by Giles Martin, who also recasted the material of the three original volumes of the Anthology, which were first released individually in 1995-1996.
On November 26 (the day before Thanksgiving), the first three episodes of the expanded and remastered documentary series will arrive on Disney+. The new ninth episode of the documentary series has been described as “including unseen behind-the-scenes footage of Paul, George and Ringo coming together between 1994 and 1995 to work on ‘The Anthology’ and reflecting on their shared life as the Beatles,” the Apple Corps announcement said. The entire documentary has been restored and remastered by Apple Corps’ production team in partnership with Peter Jackson’s Wingnut Films & Park Road Post teams, plus Giles Martin, whose new audio mixes will be heard in “the majority of the featured music.”
Anthology 4 will include remixed versions of Free as a Bird and Real Love, the two songs that came out with the original Anthology releases. John Lennon demos from the 1970s were augmented and finished as official Beatles tracks by Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The 2025 remixes have been described as have been “given new life by their original producer, Jeff Lynne, using de-mixed John Lennon Vocals.” Now and Then also joins these two remixed 1995 songs to complete the final side of Anthology 4. This song was released in 2023 as the third and final posthumous Beatles single.
For those who want a preview of what the new collection will sound like, the new remix of Free as a Bird was released this week. This is the first track from this remixed set to be released.
The track notes for Anthology 4 are written by Kevin Howlette and include an introduction compiled from 1996 interviews recorded with Beatles advisor Derek Taylor.
The Anthology 4 includes 36 tracks that are a mixture of the 13 previously unreleased tracks and numbers that appeared on deluxe sets celebrating albums like Abbey Road, Let it Be, White Album, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, and Revolver. There are also a couple tracks from the limited digital release The Beatles Bootleg Recordings 1963 included. Most of this is from the early and mid 1960’s sessions of The Beatles that had not yet gotten the full deluxe treatment. This is in comparison to everything from Revolver on that has been given this treatment.
