Freakier Friday

‘Freakier Friday’ Has Solid Opening Weekend

Freakier Friday has had a solid opening weekend. The sequel to the 2003 Freaky Friday sees Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan coming back together for this family-friendly comedy. For its opening weekend, the film brought in $29 million. This was at the upper end of projections and saw the movie come in second at the box office. It also saw the film have the most successful opening for a PG-rated pic in August. Overseas, the film brought in an additional $15.5 million. In total, the film garnered $45 million. This is the same price that it took to make the film, not taking into account the marketing budget.

Fantastic Four: First Steps

The other film from Disney that is in theaters currently is The Fantastic Four: First Steps. On its third weekend in theaters, the film saw another dip in its earnings. It earned $15 million domestically this weekend. This brings its domestic total to $229 million. This isn’t ideal for Marvel Studios as it pivots from a strategy of quantity to quality. However, it is one piece of a bigger puzzle, so only time will tell how this impacts the franchise as a whole.

Freakier Friday

Freakier Friday was well received by fans who eagerly gave it positive feedback, including an A CinemaScore. It also earned a 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The film also has some other benefits as well including a female target and a nostalgia factor. In recent weeks, the original film has been among the 10 most-watched films on Disney+ as well.
