Disney’s Lilo & Stitch is the newest live-action remake by Walt Disney Studios. This is the story about outcasts and the importance and power of found family. Just like the animated film, Lilo adopts a new pet in the form of Stitch. Together, they discover the power of love and family bonds in the beautiful setting of Hawai’i. Dean Fleischer Camp directs this version of the film that stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Chris Sanders, with Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, and Maia Kealoha in her first film.

Quality
I will admit, the thought of a completely CGI Stitch worried me a little bit initially. I also thought of some of the space scenes and other extraterrestrials and questioned whether a live-action remake of an animated film like Lilo & Stitch could pull this off without being distracting (bad CGI, I find very distracting). Thankfully, within a few minutes of the film starting, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this film. The CGI looks good. More importantly, it is just a pleasant film to look at. It captures Hawai’i beautifully. This is done both visually and aurally as well. The accompanying sound effects and soundtrack really make for a nice viewing experience. It is was very easy to understand why people have been enjoying this version of the movie so much.

Bonus Features
The extras that were included with Lilo & Stitch were quite enjoyable to watch. I was also happy that they weren’t needed to prop up the film. Instead, they just added to the depth of making the film. My favorites were the two featurettes, ‘Ohana Means Family: Making Lilo & Stitch and Drawn to Life. The others were worth watching as well. This is a film where I would love to have seen even more featurettes included. However, I did walk away wanting more, so maybe that isn’t a bad thing. Below is a look at the bonus features that are included with this release.

Final Thoughts
Disney’s Lilo & Stitch is a surprisingly good (really good) live-action remake. The animated version of the film is in the middle of the pack for me in terms of my favorite Disney films. I don’t love it. I don’t have it. This movie, I really enjoyed. It might even be my favorite live-action remake of a Disney animated film. If it isn’t the top, it is in the top three. The film is beautiful in many different ways. It is full of heart. Maia Kealoha as Lilo, with Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as her sister Nani, was really great casting as well. The whole cast really was solid, and I wouldn’t change a thing. This is a beautiful film that is worth watching again and definitely worth having in the personal collection! I take my hat off for this film and this release.
