Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King - Disney Destiny

Disney Cruise Line Shares First Look at ‘Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King’ Costumes for Disney Destiny

The Disney Destiny will be joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet later this fall. When it does, this beautiful new ship will be themed to heroes and villains with many different stories coming to life on its decks. One of the stories that guests will get to experience is The Lion King. Guests aboard the Disney Destiny will experience this during the Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King. This immersive dining experience will bring the story of Simba to life as guests dine on some incredible culinary creations inspired by where the story takes place. Ahead of the arrival of the Disney Destiny, a first look at some of the costumes from the Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King has been revealed.

Amanda Avila, Associate Costume Designer with Disney Live Entertainment, is the creative mind behind the costumes and accessory pieces for the all-new dining experience coming to the Disney Destiny. “The costumes take inspiration from the various regions of Africa, with a mix of both contemporary and traditional silhouettes and details,” said Amanda. “We wanted them to feel elevated and regal with nods to both the characters and the culture.” For example, many of the pieces feature cowrie shell details, which draw inspiration from the country of Benin in West Africa. In Benin, the shells symbolize prosperity, wealth, good luck, and destiny – a fitting representation of Simba’s story and the name of the ship itself.

Disney shared how the costumes and accessories are important as a part of the storytelling for Simba’s journey from cub to king. During the performance, storytellers will wear specific accessories to embody the personalities and attributes of various characters from the Disney animated classic. One example that was shared by Disney was in regards to Scar. To bring him to life, the accessories are the only pieces in the collection that utilize the color black. This is inspired by his black mane. His headdress will also feature a single red feather above his left eye. Amanda designed the headdress in this way to represent his scar.

These are just some of the costume pieces that will debut with Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King aboard the Disney Destiny when it takes guests to sea for the first time this November.
