Peter Sohn, director of Pixar’s Elemental, will also be directing Incredibles 3 for Pixar Animation Studios. Brad Bird, who wrote the screenplays for the first two films and also directed them, is writing the screenplay for the third film. The first two movies have earned a combined $1.8 billion at the box office. While Bird will not be directing this third film in the franchise, he will join Dany Murray (Soul) to produce the film.
Brad Bird and Peter Sohn have worked together for a long time. Sihn has collaborated on every animated Brad Bird film at Pixar. This includes The Incredibles and also Incredibles 2. The only exception is Ray Gunn, which Bird is currently working on. Sohn was chosen to take the helm of Incredibles 3 by Bird and Pixar Chief Creative Officer Pete Docter.
Peter Sohn has a long history with Pixar Animation Studios. Along with directing the Oscar-nominated Elemental, he also directed The Good Dinosaur. He also provided his voice for a variety of characters for Pixar films, including Ratatouille, Monsters University, and Lightyear.
Brad Bird is currently working on two different films. The first is Ray Gunn, a passion project of his. This film is for Skydance Animation. The other is 1906 for Disney. The timeline for both of these films is currently unknown.
The original The Incredibles film follows the Parr family, who also happen to be superheroes. Bob and Helen Parr are also Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl. They attempt to live a domestic life with their three kids after the government bans superpowers. However, things end up taking a turn, and as they attempt to come to the rescue, they discover their whole family is super (in more ways than one). The second film sees the Parr family trying to rebuild public trust in masked heroes as a new cybercriminal threatens mankind. The films star the vocal talents of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Samuel L. Jackson. The first film garnered $630 million at the global box office. The second earned $1.24 billion, making it one of Pixar’s biggest movies.
Incredibles 3 was first announced at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in August 2024. At this point, a release date has not been announced.
