Florida Governor Appoints 3 New Board Members to District Governing Walt Disney World Resort

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has appointed three new board members to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. This is the district where most of Walt Disney World Resort is located. In recent years, this was a spot of controversy between Disney and the State of Florida. However, the controversy has died down and now both are working for the betterment of the district.

Governor DeSantis has appointed Alexis Yarbrough, John Gilbert, and Scott Workman to join the board of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. These appointments do require approval from the Florida Senate.

Yarbrough is the current Chair of the Broward College District Board of Trustees and will be the new Chair for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. She previously served as Chair and Commissioner on the Fourth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami and a Juris Doctor from Nova Southeastern University. Gilbert is currently the Executive Managing Director at Stream Realty Partners. Gilbert graduated with a bachelor’s degree in real estate from Florida State University. Workman owns Workman Transportation and Workman Travel. Workman attended the University of Iowa and “has been active in the transportation industry in Orlando for over 25 years.”

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District is responsible for the infrastructure of the area around Walt Disney World Resort. This includes things like roads, emergency services, and other services that are similar to a county government. The district was originally known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District and was created in 1967.
