Universal Studios Hollywood Closes as Wildfires Rage Through Southern California

Universal Studios Hollywood has posted that it will not be open today. This comes as severe winds and fires ravage the Los Angeles area. Universal posted the following announcement on Wednesday morning:

Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal CityWalk will be closed today, Jan. 8, as a result of the extreme winds and fire conditions. We will continue to assess the situation and expect to open for business tomorrow.

The safety of our team members and our guests is our top priority.

As Santa Ana winds strafed Southern California on Tuesday, fires broke out in Pacific Palisades initially. The Palisades Fire currently has burned over 5,000 acres and destroyed over 1,000 structures. There is zero containment and thousands have been evacuated. In Altadena, another fire called the Eaton Fire is also uncontained and has burned thousands of acres. The firefighting efforts have been hampered by the incredibly strong winds. This has kept aircraft from being able to join the fight. It is hoped that the winds will die down today and allow for more tools to be used against the inferno.

At this point, it is unknown if Universal Studios Hollywood will be reopening on January 9th. Conditions in the area will determine this. Six Flags Magic Mountain also closed on Wednesday due to the dangerous conditions in the area around Santa Clarita.

Other Southern California theme parks remain open. This includes the Disneyland Resort and Knott’s Berry Farm. Daps Magic will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
