On this day in 1935, the animated short ‘Mickey’s Man Friday’ was released. Its plot was inspired by Daniel Defoe’s book ‘Robinson Crusoe’ from 1719. While at sea, Mickey Mouse lands on an island filled with hungry natives. He uses his resourcefulness to rescue and befriend a tribesman who is running for his life. Mickey dubs him his “Man Friday.” The two of them learn to communicate with each other and set up booby traps to fend off the angry hoard. [90 years ago in 2025]
