Food has always been a part of the worldbuilding in the stories that take place in and around the Wizarding World. From the first Harry Potter movie, food has been included in the storytelling. This way of including food has been part of what makes the world of Harry Potter seem so real. It also has often led to some really mouth-watering moments in the movies, books, and even the series now seen on the Food Network!
The Official Wizarding World Cookbook helps bring the culinary delights that come from the Wizarding World home for Harry Potter fans to enjoy. This is a great tool for a themed dinner, a movie night, or just for fun!
The book is divided into several sections that come from different places in the multiple stories that have been told through the years. They include:
- London, Little Whinging & The Burrow
- Hogwarts
- Great Hall Feasts
- New York City
- Paris
Throughout the cookbook, as one is working through the recipes, there are some beautiful photos included. Most of the photos are of the food but there are also some from the films. There also are some lovely pieces of art portraying moments from the stories as well. The recipes have introductions that connect what is being made with the story that was told. Each recipe also has an ingredient list and an easy-to-follow set of directions. There are also quotes and trivia included as well!
Most of the recipes included in this cookbook lean toward the British origins of the stories. However, as one gets further through the book, New York and Paris unsurprisingly inspire the recipes. The recipes themselves aren’t too complicated and most home cooks or aspiring home cooks should be able to tackle them without stress. There are a few that might take a little more concentration, but nothing seems impossible!
Several recipes jumped out at me throughout this cookbook. Some that are on my list to make soon include Hermione Granger’s Extension Charm Bacon and Potato Hand Pies, Triwizard Tournament Chocolate Roulade (this one will make your mouth water), the Hogwarts Roast Chicken with Marvelous Hasselback Roasted Potatoes and Green Bean Salad (perfect for Sunday lunch!), The Bland Pig Laughing Lemonade Cocktails (yes, this includes alcohol), or the Belowground Brie en Croute.
Overall, the recipes found in the Official Wizarding World Cookbook are a lot of fun and delicious! This is a fun cookbook and a must-have for fans of the world of Harry Potter. It is accessible and will be fun for fans of all ages. I give this cookbook a solid hat tip. Now, it’s time to get cooking!
