Some familiar favorites from the Marvel Cinematic Universe are making a return. Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell are both returning to the MCU to be in Avengers: Doomsday. While it isn’t known exactly what role Chris Evans will be playing, Atwell is reportedly returning as Agent Carter.
There are several different options for Evans’s role. He is most known in the MCU for portraying Steve Rogers/Captain America. However, he could also make an appearance as Johnny Storm/The Human Torch, as he did recently in Deadpool & Wolverine. There is also the possibility that he is a completely different character or even a villain! Since this movie appears to be dealing with multiple timelines, anything is possible.
Evans has been a long-time collaborator with Joe and Anthony Russo, who are returning to the MCU to direct Avengers: Doomsday. He has been directed in four films by the brothers. This film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026. They also will be directing Avengers: Secret Wars the following year. They have indicated that the two films will be related. This could mean that this will be similar to what happened with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, which brought just about every hero seen to date to the screen. Seeing that this is a multiverse story, having all the main heroes make a return wouldn’t be a surprise.
There aren’t many plot details known about Avengers: Doomsday at this point. What is known is that Robert Downey Jr. will be returning to the MCU as Doctor Victor von Doom and not Iron Man. Doctor Doom is generally the main villain for the Fantastic Four. It also is known that this film will conclude the Multiverse Saga in the MCU.
