On this day in 1939, the first Donald Duck Sunday cartoon was published in American newspapers. The comic strip had been weekdays only since February 1938. Adding Sundays was an instant hit! Al Taliaferro drew the cartoons and Bob Karp wrote them. Taliaferro first drew Donald in his screen debut appearance in 1934’s ‘The Wise Little Hen’ and fell in love with the character. He convinced Disney and King Features to introduce the newspaper strips! [85 years ago in 2024]
