Disney Treasure Rescues 4 People From Sinking Catamaran

The Disney Treasure was making its way from Europe to its new home port in Florida when it diverted to save four people from a sinking catamaran on Sunday. The 50-foot catamaran, named the Serenity, was about 230 miles off Bermuda when it began to take on water due to a gasket failure.

The Serenity called the Coast Guard for help. The Coast Guard issued a broadcast. The Disney Treasure happened to be about 80 miles away. The ship went to the Serenity and launched one of its life boats to rescue the small crew.

The crew was safely rescued with no medical issues reported. “We are pleased that the Disney Treasure was able to provide aid to the boat passengers in peril. Our crew members worked together on the rescue, skillfully demonstrating their training and commitment to safety,” Disney Treasure Captain Marco Nogara said in a statement to ABC News.

The Disney Treasure is making its way to its new home port in Port Canaveral, Florida. The ship is joining the Disney Cruise Line fleet and take its maiden voyage with guests next month. The first cruise for the Disney Treasure will be a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise when it departs on December 21st. This will be followed by the inaugural season of seven-night itineraries to the Eastern and Western Caribbean from Port Canaveral. Cruises aboard the Disney Treasure can be booked through Mouseways Travel, the official travel partner of Daps Magic.

Throughout the ship, there will be themed experiences of all kinds to enjoy. This includes of course the opportunity to meet Disney characters and princesses. There are also some incredible dining options that include a Haunted Mansion-themed lounge and a jazz lounge themed to The Aristocats. Along with some other incredible dining experiences, there will also be some incredible entertainment offerings as well. This includes a new Moana stage show.
