On this day in 1969, the Florida Citrus Commission signed a contract with WED Enterprises to sponsor an attraction at the future Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. This would be a “tropical bird show,” eventually called the Tropical Serenade, a version of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. The partnership would last until the contract expired in 1987. As part of the development, WED designed a mascot character to promote Florida citrus, Orange Bird! [55 years ago in 2024]
