On this day in 1999, ‘The Lion King’ stage show opened on the West End at the Lyceum Theatre in London. The composers, Elton John and Tim Rice, as well as Roy E. Disney and Michael Eisner were in attendance that night. Amazingly, the West End production is still running today after 25 years and over 9,500 performances! ‘The Lion King’ became the top-earning stage show in box-office history in 2014. It has grossed more than $8 billion globally! [25 years ago in 2024]
