The Disney Wish will not be sailing on Friday, October 11, 2024, due to the effects of Hurricane Milton. A message was sent to those who were expecting to cruise aboard the ship announcing the cancellation. It also indicated that those who were expected to cruise aboard the ship would receive a refund and a 20% discount on a future cruise for each guest who was scheduled to be sailing on this cruise.
The Disney Cruise Line said, “We have been closely monitoring Hurricane Milton and its projected path, which is expected to move through Central Florida later this week. Due to the weather conditions most recently forecasted for Port Canaveral and Central Florida and the impact that it might have on port operations, we have made the difficult decision to cancel your sailing.”
The cancellation of this cruise comes as Hurricane Milton continues to bear down on Florida. Yesterday, Orlando International Airport announced that it would be discontinuing commercial flights starting on Wednesday morning. At this time, Walt Disney World Resort has not changed its operations yet but continues to monitor the storm. It has said that it will be closing some of its accommodations that can be impacted by the storm.
The storm is now a Category 4. Yesterday it was a Category 5 storm. The storm may weaken as it approaches Florida. However, it will still have an incredible impact and is being called a 100-year storm. Currently, it is forecast to be a Category 3 or Category 2 storm as it crosses the state of Florida.
If you are on a Disney vacation in Florida or have one planned in the coming days, please listen to instructions from Disney cast members and officials. They are tasked with everyone’s safety and one of the best ways to help them be successful with this is to listen to directions. What may not seem like a big deal from one perspective might be a puzzle piece in a bigger picture that really is important.
At this point, Walt Disney World Resort has suspended the ability to make park reservations on October 9 and October 10th. Guests can also modify or cancel their trips to Walt Disney World Resort without penalty due to the storm as well.
Daps Magic will continue to monitor this storm and provide updates as they become available.
