On this day in 1982, Carnival de Lumiere, EPCOT’s first nighttime spectacular, debuted on the World Showcase Lagoon. The show celebrated the global community using fountains, videos, and music. Barges housed rear-projection screens that were intended to be viewed from any location. Unfortunately, only some pavilions had a good view. Although it only lasted for a few months, Carnival de Lumiere became the prototype for EPCOT spectaculars.
