Agatha All Along: Episode 5 Recap and Review

Episode 5 of Agatha All Along is a real doozy with its end reveal so we figured we would give you all enough time to watch it. Therefore, it goes without saying, that this recap and review will have MAJOR spoilers. You’ve been warned.

In this episode, “with enemies closing in, the coven flees under the light of a blood moon to the next ghastly trial.”

We start with Lilia having a premonition of the coven being pursued by the Salem Seven. We get a bit of their backstory and learn that they are the children of the witches Agatha killed. This differs from the comic where they are the children of Nicholas Scratch.

They decide, at Teen’s suggestion, to craft brooms through a ritual: they have to make one for another and trade. During all of this, Teen is jumped by the Salem Seven but is saved by Alice. They manage to fly away but The Road pulls them out of the sky and back down to their next trial.

When they enter the house for this trial they are transformed into 80s slumber party guests. They correctly assume that due to the blood moon outside, the trial is Agatha’s. A ouija board falls and as soon as Teen picks it up everyone’s watch alarms beep indicating their timer has started.

After Teen goes over the rules, everyone gathers around the board which spells out M-R-S H-A-R-T. Agatha pretends to be possessed by her but after everyone tells her to knock it off they try again. This time it spells D-E-A-T-H and P-U-N-I-S-H A-G-A-T-H-A. It won’t stop and Agatha pulls her hands off the planchette (which is against the rules). Led by Jennifer, everyone but Teen is willing to listen to the board and “punish” Agatha. Agatha disappears but we see her on the ceiling, possessed. She comes down and does a spider walk reminiscent of Regan’s walk in The Exorcist.

It turns out that Evanora Harkness, Agatha’s mother, is the one possessing her. She tells the coven to finish The Road without Agatha, as that will punish her. She tells Agatha that she was born evil. Jennifer wants to just leave Agatha behind. Agatha is possessed once again by her mother. Alice pushes Evanora out with her powers but simultaneously has her powers taken by Agatha.

While this is happening Teen notices the ouija board moving and asks who it is. It spells out Nicholas Scratch. No one is paying attention though because Alice has now had all her powers stolen and is dead.

While the coven is reacting to this latest death, Agatha sneaks out. Teen confronts her and she basically tells him that being a witch means you may have to kill others. He says he won’t do that and she responds that he is just like his mother.

Lilia and Jennifer join them and their eyes are blue (were they hypnotized?) and they drag Agatha away and push her into some sort of quicksand-like muck that pulls her in. Meanwhile, we see blue magic emanating from Teen’s hand. They come towards Teen and he uses his magic to repel them into the same muck. As the camera pans back to Teen, he is wearing a headpiece similar to Scarlet Witch indicating that he is most likely William Maximoff aka Wiccan. (I’m just gonna say that I predicted this immediately after the first two episodes.)

This episode was fantastic! I really appreciated the series getting back to the dark tone we saw in the second episode. Interestingly, we didn’t see Rio at the end of this episode. Does that mean she and Teen will have to save the others? Is Nicholas Scratch more involved than we thought? Will we see Wanda come back?

With only 4 episodes remaining there are still lots of questions to be answered and I can’t wait! Have you been enjoying Agatha All Along? Let us know in the comments below!
