On this day in 1994, the Disney’s America theme park project was officially canceled. Inspired by Colonial Williamsburg and dedicated to bringing American history to life, the park would have been built in Haymarket, Virginia, about 35 miles from Washington D.C. Unfortunately, the project received pushback from residents and historians. Some of the park’s ideas eventually found a home at Disney California Adventure, like Soarin’ and Grizzly River Run! [30 years ago in 2024]
