On this day in 1985, ‘Disney’s Adventures of the Gummi Bears’ debuted on NBC. It was the first major serialized animated program from Walt Disney Animation Television. It led the way for the TV animation boom of the 1980s and ‘90s, including the Disney Afternoon lineup. The inspiration for the show came in part from gummy bear candies and Michael Eisner’s son craving them. ‘Gummi Bears’ ran for six seasons in the U.S. before it spread around the world.
