Today, it turns out, is International Bamboo Day. Anyone who has visited Disneyland Paris will recognize that there is quite a lot of bamboo to be found throughout the park. Disneyland Paris shared about the bamboo that is found in different areas today at this beautiful Disney park. Check it out below and see if there is anything you didn’t know about bamboo at Disneyland Paris!
DISCOVERING THE BAMBOOS OF DISNEYLAND PARIS
On this International Bamboo Day, this unusual tropical grass takes the spotlight! As aesthetic as they are useful, bamboos are an integral part of the Disneyland Paris landscape, particularly in the luxuriant vegetation of Adventureland. But their role doesn’t stop there!
Often mistaken for shrubs, bamboos are actually tall grasses from the same family as lawns. One of the many fascinating characteristics of bamboos is that all species flower and perish at the same time worldwide! It’s also one of the fastest-growing plants in the world. On average, a bamboo plant can grow one meter a day in some countries. In India, a bamboo plant grew 1.60 meters in height in just one single day! Bamboos are so strong that, in Asia, they are used as scaffolding or to build bridges.
At Disneyland Paris, in addition to their presence in the lush landscape, the most robust bamboos are collected, cut and repurposed in our workshops. Cast Members in our central workshops are in charge of giving them a second life by upcycling them as decorations or as barriers, to keep our visitors safe. You can find them near Indiana Jones™ and the Temple of Peril or La Cabane des Robinson.
