The Disney Treasure reached a major milestone today. This comes ahead of it taking guests on its maiden voyage later this year. The next ship to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet departed the Meyer Werft shipyard with the help of tugboats. It then made its way down the Ems River and toward open water for the first time.
Disney photographers were among those who were on hand for the departure of this beautiful new ship. They joined fans who watched the ship make its way down the river and waved. There was a spirit of celebration as the Treasure moved away from where it was built and towards the sea, where all ships truly belong during what is called the conveyance. Disney shared the following pictures of this milestone moment for this ship.
The next step for the Disney Treasure will be its sea trials. During the sea trials, the ship will undergo a series of rigorous tests designed to ensure the ship’s seaworthiness. This is an important part of bringing any fleet. Ships in commercial and Navy fleets all undergo sea trials before they are put to work.
For the Disney Treasure’s sea trials, Captain Marco will be onboard to help oversee the trials and confirm the Disney Treasure is ready for what will be its next milestone, its journey across the Atlantic Ocean.
The Disney Treasure is the sixth ship to join the Disney Cruise Line Fleet. It is a Wish-class ship which was preceded by its sister ship the Disney Wish. It is set to take its inaugural cruise in December 2024.
The inspiration for the Disney Treasure comes from multiple Disney stories and characters with adventure being the foundation for both the theme of the ship from an architectural standpoint and an experience standpoint. The newest Disney Cruise Line ship will honor Walt Disney’s legendary passion for exploration and travel. When guests board the Disney Treasure, they will notice that some favorite spaces are found on the sister ship Disney Wish, that are also infused with the theme of adventure and inspired by favorite Disney stories. This includes Aladdin, Coco, and Zootopia to name a few!
