Disney Legend and Disney historian Tim O’Day will be signing their book Groundbreaking Magic at the Disneyland Resort on Saturday, September 28, 2024. This comes ahead of the book’s official release on October 1, 2024.
Groundbreaking Magic: A Black Woman’s Journey Through The Happiest Place on Earth is the story of Martha Blanding. Martha’s Disney career began in 1971 when she became a Tour Guide at Disneyland. This started a career that spanned five decades and saw her become the first Black VIP Tour Guide and then she eventually became the first Black woman to hold a leadership position at the Disneyland Resort. She became the Senior Manager, Disneyland Resort Merchandise Special Events, and co-founded PULSE, a Business Employee Resource Group for Black Cast Members and employees. She also became the first Black American to achieve a half-century-long career with The Walt Disney Company. Now, this book will tell her story.
Groundbreaking Magic will be on sale at several locations throughout the Disneyland Resort on Saturday. Guests can purchase the book and then meet the authors. They will be at the following locations at the following times:
- 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Disneyana, Main Street, U.S.A., Disneyland Park
- 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at WonderGround Gallery, Downtown Disney District
- 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Off the Page, Hollywood Land, Disney California Adventure Park
Recently at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Martha Blanding was honored as a Disney Legend in honor of the impact that she made on The Walt Disney Company throughout her career. Below is the moment she was honored and her acceptance speech.
