Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is in talks to direct the next installment of Spider-Man with Tom Holland. If things go forward, he will become the fourth director to helm a Spider-Man film for the franchise. Jon Watts was the director of the first three movies with Tom Holland. Before him, Marc Webb directed the two Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. The Tobey Maguire Spider-Man trilogy was directed by Sam Raimi.
The Spider-Man franchise with Tom Holland at the center of it has been quite successful. Most recently, Spider-Man: No Way Home brought in over $2 billion after it was released in December 2021. This was as the world was coming out of the pandemic. It also saw both Maguire and Garfield returning to the franchise.
This next Spider-Man film has Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers returning to write the script. Once again, Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are producing. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this film is moving quite quickly towards production. It is expected that it will begin filming early in 2025.
It isn’t known exactly what the story will be for this next Spider-Man flick. At the end of the last one, Peter Park and Spider-Man had been erased from the memories of the world. Presumably, the story will continue on and show how Spider-Man makes his return to the world as a super hero.
At this time, there isn’t a specific timeline for this film. Cretton is believed to still be attached to the second Shang-Chi film and an adaptation of Naruto. Neither Marvel Studios nor Sony has made any official comment on this development.
