Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase shared plenty of news to Disney fans at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. There were announcements about new ships for the Disney Cruise Line, new lands in parks around the world, and also new attractions. Two of these new attractions will be coming to Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort. These two particular attractions will be based on the world of Disney-Pixar’s Cars.
The announcement that Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater will be racing to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom came during the showcase via a video call with Mater and Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro. During the announcement, it was revealed that this won’t be a clone of Cars Land and its attractions that are found in Disney California Adventure. Instead, these will be different and themed to Frontierland.
“The American West has always been about keeping your eyes on the horizon … believing in yourself, carving your own path, and striving toward success. That goes for miners in the mountains, bears from the country, a princess from the bayou … or a racecar from the big city,” Josh told the crowd.
Two Cars Attractions
The first new attraction that will be found in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom will be a rally race. This will take guests on a thrilling rally race through the mountains of Frontierland. Disney described the attraction saying, “Take on wild terrain as you race across the landscape climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers and — Mater’s favorite — splashing through mudholes.”
The second attraction will be targeting smaller races. It will be something that is fun for the whole family.
The Destination
Upon the announcement of these two Cars attractions the question quickly became, where will it go? This has been answered now. The two new Cars attractions will be in Frontierland in the space where the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island currently is found. This area will be transformed into the rugged and vast terrains where guests will get to race with some of their favorite cars.
When Will It Happen?
Work will begin on the transformation of the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island into this new Cars-themed area of Frontierland in early 2025. Be sure to stop by the Rivers of America for one last adventure on Tom Sawyer Island and one last cruise around the Rivers of America before then!
