A group called Nullbulge says it has hacked The Walt Disney Company. At this point, Disney has not confirmed that this has indeed happened. The Hollywood Reporter reached out to Disney who responded with the following statement: “Disney is investigating this matter.”
Nullbulge says it is a hacktivist organization that aims to protect artists rights and ensure fair compensation for their work. It appears that the leaked information includes information mostly from Slack. This includes internal communications from Disney, images, logins, studio information, ad campaigns, and other information.
Disney is not the first media or telecom company to be attacked this year. Earlier this year Roku was attacked that led to over a half million accounts being compromised. Live Nation, who owns Ticketmaster was also a victim of an attack in May. Earlier this month, AT&T revealed that nearly all of its wireless customers had their call and text message records obtained. The content of these were not obtained, however. In the cast of Ticketmaster and AT&T, a third-party cloud provider called Snowflake was involved in the attacks. It does not appear that Disney’s hack is related in any way to this.
Nullbulge told The Wall Street Journal that the attack on Disney was “due to how it handles artist contracts, its approach to AI, and it’s [sic] pretty blatant disregard for the consumer.”
