Life is all about adventure, and adventure is out there! Earlier this summer, Airbnb and Pixar collaborated to bring the beloved Up House to life. Airbnb announced a new collection of experiences for guests to have called Icons. This category of offerings offered the chance for guests to experience some of their favorite icons across music, film, art, sports, and beyond. This exclusive collection of experiences to Airbnb included the opportunity to stay in the house from Disney and Pixar’s Up and also spend the night in Headquarters from Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2. Now for one real-life couple, the Up House is now part of their forever memories.
Heitor and Lua from Joinville, Brazil, were together for six years when Heitor was trying to figure out a special way to propose to her. He saw Airbnb’s announcement in May for the Up House coming in the summer, and realized that he found the dream location. Lua is a huge fan of the Pixar film, and as a couple, they’ve always felt a connection to Carl and Ellie. Heitor was one of the lucky fans selected for the once-in-a-lifetime stay, signaling that this was meant to be. The Up House features more than 8,000 balloons, and located in the scenic red rocks of Abiquiu, New Mexico.
In the movie Up, Carl befriends Ellie who keeps a scrapbook of her adventures and dreams of moving her “clubhouse” (an abandoned house) to Paradise Falls. Carl and Ellie eventually marry, renovate the clubhouse and move in. They work at the city zoo as a balloon salesman and zookeeper. Though the couple saves money for a trip to Paradise Falls, they must repeatedly spend their savings on more pressing needs. Many years later, a now elderly Carl decides to surprise Ellie with tickets to South America, but she falls ill and is hospitalized. Ellie gives Carl her scrapbook before her passing.
During their magical stay, Lua and Heitor connected with the natural wonders surrounding the Up House in New Mexico, including canoeing, hikes and a sunset picnic in the canyons. The fairy tale moment happened while the couple was inside the house working on their own Adventure Book photo album, just like Carl and Ellie’s in the film. With the sentimental soundtrack playing in the home, Heitor got down on one knee and proposed in the living room – and Lua said yes!
Daps Magic congratulates the happy couple on their engagement, and wishes them lots of love, adventures, and happiness in their life.
