Beignets are often a favorite treat for guests visiting Walt Disney World. These delicious snacks are more popular than ever. Whether it is eating them in Magic Kingdom Princess Tiana in celebration of the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, or enjoying them at Port Orleans French Quarter while taking a break from the parks, these are a wonderful and sweet snack. Four Disney cast members at Walt Disney World set out on a Beignet challenge. During this challenge, they tried no less than seven beignets from three different location. They have shared their experience below so that guests visiting the Walt Disney World Resort in the future can plan their own beignet adventure. Check out their thoughts and experiences below.
1. A Bounty of Beignets at Port Orleans French Quarter
The first leg of our beignet adventure started on a trip on the water, courtesy of the complimentary Sassagoula River Cruise leaving port at Disney Springs.
That’s right, at Disney World, you can get beignets with a side of bayou-adjacent sightseeing. Start at Disney Springs (if driving, park at the Lime Garage for the closest location) and head to the Marketplace dock to board your complimentary boat to Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter Resort.
After catching waterfront views of Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and the adorable Treehouse Villas on the way, our crew headed to Scat Cat’s Club – Cafe, where guests can enjoy classic Mickey-shaped beignets, frosted beignets for kids, even beignets just for adults.
Classic Mickey-Shaped Beignets
These iconic beignets are available in packs of three or six, and priced at $7.79 and $11.29 respectively at the time of publication. If you want to find yourself by a romantic atrium fountain snacking on a Mickey-shaped treat, these are your beignets. So picturesque. Especially the powdered sugar all over your hands and face.
Light, airy, and covered in alllll the powdered sugar (and then some) these beignets also come with one of three dipping sauces: strawberry, chocolate, or caramel. Now these were the surprise hit for our team.
Ally’s favorite was the strawberry sauce – it was akin to a fruit purée, packing in lots of fresh berry flavor. The chocolate sauce was my go-to, thick with a deep cocoa base, and the caramel sauce was thinner, ideal for drizzling and hands-down the choice of Danielle and Kendal.
We each had some strong feelings about these sauces, so I think our #1 tip here is to try all of them (you can grab additional sauces for $.99)!
Bonus: Guests can also get one of these classic beignets with their choice of ice cream and sauce for $9.29.
Specialty Beignets
A different look than your traditional powdered beignets, the Mickey-shaped Specialty Beignets are a larger and festively colorful confection available for $4.29 each at Scat Cat’s Club – Café.
As Kendal noted, “It’s sweeter, it’s cute, and great for kids!” I have to agree, and while these have a good helping of icing and sprinkles, the Specialty Beignets are nicely balanced and not-too-sweet for a more refined palate.
Baton-Rouge Beignets (21+)
These next beignets were the most unique our group had ever seen. The Baton-Rouge Beignets ($12.49 at time of publication) come with an interactive pipette element for the filling which ensured the fluffy beignet dough remained fresh until the last bite.
When ready, you can squeeze the pipette and fill your beignet with your choice of Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlúa Coffee Liqueur, or RumChata Cream Liqueur.
Danielle was all about the RumChata Cream Liqueur option we tried. “After emptying the pipette, the beignet was soft and it felt like it was melting in your mouth!” Our group agreed and we loved that we had the do-it-yourself option of filling our beignets right at the table.
2. Gluten-Friendly Beignets at Scat Cat’s Club – Café
Worth their own place on our list: the famously gluten-friendly beignets available at Scat Cat’s Club – Café. If you have a gluten sensitivity, or love someone who does, chances are you already know that Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter has long been home to these beignets of a more traditional pillow shape, hold the gluten (and for the same prices as the standard batches).
A bit thicker consistency than their Mickey-shaped counterparts, the gluten-friendly option offers a crisped outer layer and soft, chewy dough that makes these oh-so-fun to pull apart.
3. A Stuffed Beignet in the France Pavilion
Did you know that beignet translates loosely to “fritter” in English?
Beignets were brought to New Orleans in the 1800s by the French Acadians, so next, our group toured World Showcase all the way to the France pavilion at EPCOT to experience a beignet from the homeland.
At Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie, there are so many beautiful treats on display, it can be hard to decide on just one – but here at Disney Parks Blog we make tough decisions for our readers and ordered the Beignet with chocolate and hazelnut filling ($5.95 at time of publication).
This round beignet may appear to be a humble treat next to the Créme Brûlée and Parfait aux Fruits – but the delicious beauty is on the inside.
Ally was surprised when we sliced it open. “The dough is decidedly more donut-like than those found at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter. Expect a thicker pastry with a firm pocket of dense filling.”
4. Tiana’s Famous Beignets at Magic Kingdom Park
The limited-time beignets just outside Tiana’s Bayou Adventure were the special spice of an idea that grew into this beautiful beignet roundup blog. Who better to get us thinking about an all-day beignet adventure than Tiana herself?
Head to Magic Kingdom Park to taste these sweet additions to the Golden Oak Outpost menu, available for $6.99 until they dance away on Aug. 8.
One of the best parts of this stop is that we could watch cast members sprinkle the powdered sugar all over a fresh batch of beignets, then drizzle them with a golden stream of honey.
With three beignets in each batch, we had enough to share with the option of watching the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure logs crest the big hill.
When I asked our group for first impressions, Danielle suddenly orated, “The honey added a really nice sweetness to the beignet that was not overpowering and complemented the sugar well.” Sometimes the desserts speak through you.
The Best Way to Beignet? With Friends!
A mission for beignets at Disney World wouldn’t be the same without friends to gather around the table. Danielle, Kendal, Ally and I had such a great time bonding over these sweet treats, so my number one recommendation for a beignet-all-day adventure is to bring along a few fellow pastry enthusiasts.
Beignets usually come in batches, making them the perfect shareable food. That, and you’ll need someone there to tell you if you’ve got powdered sugar on your face.
