On this day in 2018, shareholders of Disney and 20th Century Fox each voted to merge the companies. The shareholders were enthusiastic about the deal, with Disney reporting a 99% approval rate. The votes only took about 10 minutes! The acquisition would cost Disney $71.3 billion, which was about 2,000 times more than the merger between 20th Century Pictures and the Fox Film Corporation in 1935! At the time, that price was considered “recklessly exorbitant!”
