The next film in the Knives Out franchise has begun production. Yesterday, Rian Johnson tweeted the news along with a picture of the hero of these films, Benoit Blanc. Johnson said, “Aaaaand we’re off! Today is day 1 of shooting on the next Benoit Blanc mystery “Wake Up Dead Man” – see you on the other side.” The following photo was also included:
As can be seen in the photo, Benoit Blanc has a similar but different look for this film. This look includes longer hair and perhaps a scruffier look as well. The photo was taken by Rian Johnson and the hat could also be a clue as to where this film will be taking place.
Rian Johnson also shared some thoughts with TUDUM.COM about the franchise saying, “We’ve been very lucky with each of these movies to have gathered some of my favorite actors on the planet, and that’s absolutely the case here… They’re also all lovely folks who get along, which is the dinner party aspect of it. When you’re making an ensemble movie like this I think that’s key.”
Speaking of great people, this film has a pretty incredible cast. Along with Daniel Craig returning as Benoit Blanc, there are quite a few other incredible actors joining the fray. This includes:
- Josh O’Connor (Challengers, The Crown)
- Glenn Close (Dangerous Liaisons, Fatal Attraction)
- Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men, Dune)
- Mila Kunis (Black Swan, Luckiest Girl Alive)
- Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker, The Town)
- Kerry Washington (Scandal, Django Unchained)
- Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers, Ripley)
- Cailee Spaeny (Civil War, Priscilla)
- Daryl McCormack (Good Luck to You, Leo Grande; Peaky Blinders)
- Thomas Haden Church (Sideways, Spider-Man 3)
Not a ton is known about this movie yet, other than the most obvious tease being in the tagline: Benoit Blanc returns in his most dangerous case yet. What that will be and where remains a mystery. Wake Up Dead Man – A Knives Out Mystery will be arriving on Netflix globally in 2025. There will presumably be some clues dropped about what is to come before then.
One other thing that is known about the film is where the title came from. Johnson shared that it came from the 1972 U2 song of the same title off their album Pop. Pop is a very underrated album, and that song is very right for the title,” Johnson said. “But I’ve had ‘Wake Up Dead Man’ in my head for a long while, and I first heard the phrase in American folk music.” This comes after Johnson titled the last film, Glass Onion, after a song by The Beatles of the same name.
