Inside Out 2 Has Record Tuesday for Animated Flick

Inside Out 2 continues to perform very strongly at the box office. After having a very solid opening weekend, which was the strongest since last summer’s Barbie, the new Pixar film continues to team through the week. On Monday, it grossed $22.2 million. This was the best “first Monday” for any Pixar film (Incredibles 2 $23.6 million).

Tuesday continued the trend of success. The film brought in $29.1 million at the domestic box office. This brings its domestic gross to $205.7 million. It also makes it a record for an animated film on its first Tuesday, beating Incredibles 2 and its $27 million. On top of all of that, it also makes it the second most successful film of the year, after less than a week in theaters! Dune: Part Two currently is in the top spot with $282.1.

Internationally, Inside Out 2 had a solid day on Tuesday as well. It brought in $46 million. Globally, the film has now garnered an impressive $380 million. It is expected that this week it will bring in $70 million. From a longer-term perspective, the film could pass the half-billion dollar mark. With the only movie with a wide release this weekend being Focus Features/Regency’s The Bikeriders, Inside Out 2 has a very good chance of continuing to dominate the weekend.

Inside Out 2 continues the story of Riley and the emotions inside of her head that were introduced in the first film. Now a teenager, Riley is facing a bigger world, and with that comes new emotions. The old emotions and the new emotions have to figure out how to work together and best work for Reiley in this film. The film is directed by Kelsey Mann. The cast has Amy Pohler again returning to voice Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Liza Lapira as Disgust, Toy Hale as Fear, and Lewis Black as Anger. They are joined by Maya Hawke who voices Anxiety, Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui, Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment, and June Squibb as Nostalgia. The film is in theaters now and the original can be seen on Disney+.
