Walt’s Barn is exactly what the name implies. Once upon a time, it was the barn that was found in Walt Disney’s backyard. It was a replica of the Disney family barn on their farm in Marceline, Missouri. At his home, Walt Disney used this barn as a workshop to build model trains and other miniatures. The barn was moved by the Disney family in 1999 from the family home to Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad Museum, of which Walt was a founding member. The barn has lived on since then as a museum that shows off Walt’s love of trains. It is operated by the non-profit Carolwood Foundation and filled with trains of all scales. Many of these were donated to the Carolwood Foundation by Walt Disney’s animators and friends that shared a love of trains. There are also personal items and tools of Walt Disney’s on display. The work benches were even built by hand by Walt himself!

Generally, Walt’s Barn is open on the 3rd Sunday of the month to the public from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Check with the Walt’s Barn Facebook page before visiting to confirm their schedule. There is also more information about Walt’s Barn at https://www.carolwood.org/.
