Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Opening Day

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Turns 5

It’s hard to believe it but 5 years ago I was walking into Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge with a couple thousand of my “closest friends.” The Daps Magic team was up bright and early in the morning to be among the first group making their way into this new land at Disneyland. The day was full of energy. In fact, one could say that The Force was strong at Disneyland that day.

As we waited in a line in Tomorrowland very early in the morning, we had a moment chatting with then Disneyland Resort President Josh D’Amaro. During this moment, the team likes to remind me that he “booped” my bow tie. We then moved over to the center entrance of Star Wares: Galaxy’s Edge. It was one of the best times entering this land, if not the best. The morning was very busy and the lines for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Oga’s Cantina were pretty incredible.

Once inside, there were a LOT of photos and videos taken during the window of time we had for our reservations that day. They were some of the best moments I’ve had in this Star Wars land. There were amazing people, both friends and those that became new friends. The energy in the land was incredible. Cast Members were incredible. The day was incredible. I also got an early present that I “didn’t know about” in the form of a DJ-R3X droid.

Five years later, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge continues to evolve. There are new characters that visit the land now and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opened the following January. While this land isn’t perfect, it is a wonderful place to go and be a Star Wars fan. To this day, there are still incredible Cast Members, moments, food, and characters. The most important part of these things, however, are the people who bring it to life and truly make the magic. Because of them, we can see the Millennium Falcon basically anytime we want. We can see droids walking around and interact with a Wookie. We also get to let our imaginations take flight as we get to experience Star Wars in a way that is even bigger than the big screen.

There has been a lot of fun memories made in the last five years at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The next five I can only imagine will be even more exciting. I can’t wait to see what new characters and experiences come to the land in the coming years. I hope there will also be more entertainment as well. It is an exciting time to be a Star Wars and a Disney fan. Here’s looking to the future!
