Wreck-It Ralph Replacing Buzz Lightyear at Tokyo Disneyland

Wreck-It Ralph is headed to Tokyo Disneyland. He will take over the current home of Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters in Tomorrowland. This comes as Tokyo Disneyland is beginning a substantial re-imagining of its Tomorrowland. Tokyo Disneyland has shared that it will be transforming the current attraction into a new one for Ralph.

The reimagining of this attraction from one based Buzz Lightyear to Ralph will not be a super hard one to imagine. Buzz Lightyear is a cartoon character with a shooter game in the parks. Ralph comes from the world of video games and adapting the current experience isn’t too hard to imagine. Tokyo Disneyland also shared concept art for the updated attraction as well.

Wreck-It Ralph Attraction Description

In the attraction, enter the candy-themed racing game Sugar Rush, which is being attacked by Sugar Bugs — glitches created by King Candy. Guests team up with the beloved film characters Ralph and Vanellope to transform the Sugar Bugs back to their original “kawaii” confectionery, such as cookies and cakes.

This Wreck-It Ralph attraction will be the first full attraction for Ralph. He has made appearances to meet with guests, appear in parades, and appear in projections during nighttime spectaculars. Ralph hasn’t, however, had a major or permanent presence in the Disney parks. This will soon give Ralph and Vanellope Von Schweetz a home in Tomorrowland at Tokyo Disneyland.

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is set to close in October at Tokyo Disneyland. The new version of the attraction will be opening sometime in the 2026 fiscal year. The current shop, Planet M, will also be transformed to be in theme with the new attraction. Concept art shows the new shop themed to Wreck-It Ralph both on the outside and also selling appropriate merchandise inside.

This isn’t the only transformation happening at Tokyo Disneyland’s Tomorrowland. It also is currently giving fans a chance to ride Space Mountain one last time before the current version is replaced by a new version with a similar but more modern look. Called, Celebrating Space Mountain: The Final Ignition!, this will give fans one last chance to blast off on the ride through July 31, 2024. Following this event, the attraction will close on August 1st for three years. It will reopen in its new form in 2027. It will have a new exterior and a re-imagined ride experience as well.

Next door at Tokyo DisneySea, Fantasy Springs is set to open on June 6, 2024. When it does, guests will be able to experience lands based on the stories of Peter Pan, Tangled, and Frozen. There will also be a new hotel adjacent to the area.

While Tokyo Disneyland might be saying goodbye to Buzz Light Year Astro Blasters, it isn’t the only place where fans can join Buzz Lightyear in defeating Zurg. The original version of the attraction can still be found at Disneyland in California and also Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Buzz Lightyear Planet Rescue, an updated version of the ride, can also be found at Shanghai Disneyland. Hong Kong Disneyland did have a Buzz Lightyear attraction but it was replaced with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle!
