On this day in 2009, the first Disneynature film, ‘Earth,’ was released in the US and Canada to celebrate Earth Day. The ‘Earth’ film was originally created as a companion piece to the BBC TV series ‘Planet Earth.’ It depicted the planet’s diverse habitats and species over one year, beginning in the Arctic in January and ending in the Antarctic in December. Filmmakers highlighted the journeys of the polar bear, the African bush elephant, and the humpback whale. [15 years ago in 2024]
