TRON: Legacy

Filming Officially Begins on ‘Tron: Ares’

Tron: Ares has officially begun filming. Under the direction of Joachim Rønning, the film was confirmed to have gone into production last month. Yesterday, Rønning took to Instagram to show that filming had begun. He posted, “WEEK 1 ON THE GRID🥏🥏🥏 #Tron” along with the following photo:

While there hasn’t been a ton of information released about this film, Rønning has provided some updates and details about it. Last year, after filming was delayed due to the SAG/AFTRA strikes, he shared about the plot of the movie. He said:

“Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on TRON: ARES (a movie subsequently about AI and what it means, and takes, to be human). Instead, we are shut down with over a hundred and fifty people laid off. It’s indefinite, which makes it exponentially harder for everyone.”

This movie will apparently be about AI and what it means, and takes to be human, according to its director. The film will have an all-star cast that is led by Jared Leto along with Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan.

The original Tron (1982) throws fans into a neon-drenched digital world where genius computer programmer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) gets sucked into the mainframe of his own company. Trapped there, he becomes a gladiator forced to compete in deadly games for the amusement of the Master Control Program, an all-powerful AI. His unlikely allies? Tron (Bruce Boxleitner), a valiant security program, and Yori (Cindy Morgan), a rebellious data sprite. Together, they navigate the treacherous landscape of the mainframe, face off against ruthless programs, and fight for survival in a stunning battle for freedom.

At this time, a release date for Tron: Ares has not been announced. Daps Magic will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
