Disneyland Paris continues to work towards sustainability. It has many different initiatives to make this happen. One of these initiatives is the use of sustainable trees for its Christmas trees. In essence, Disneyland Paris is using real live trees as Christmas trees. This goes beyond just a tree here or a tree there. There are 80 natural Christmas trees being installed around Disneyland Paris this holiday season.
The use of the natural trees is made possible due to a collaboration with Pépinière du Val d’Yerres, a local nursery found in Seine et Marne. These trees will be used for the holiday season and then get a year to grow before returning the following season. This is all thanks to a special process that has been identified with the help of this nursery.
The idea of utilizing living trees came from discussions that were had by the teams responsible for the Christmas season from both a Entertainment and Horticulture side of things. This took several years of discussion and reflections before they turned to Pépinière du Val d’Yerres. This nursery was able to work on a specific process to bring this dream to life. It utilizes and anti-bun plant container. It allows the trees to continue to grow without having to be cut down. Because of this, the 80 natural Christmas trees installed in the Disneyland Park this holiday season will keep on growing at the end of the season. They will then return even bigger and strong next year.
Jeanne Debost, producer of the Christmas season, and Pierre Baïssus from the Pépinière du Val d’Yerres shared about this project in a video that was released by Disneyland Paris. Check it out here:
