Thanksgiving is almost upon us. As many people gear up for making their Thanksgiving meal, chefs at Walt Disney World Resort are gearing up to give back and make some incredible meals for those in need. Part of these meals include a pecan pie. This pecan pie recipe is made for the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida on Thanksgiving Day. It continues a tradition that is 25 years strong. The Walt Disney World Resort culinary team cooks hundreds of traditional Thanksgiving meals every year that are then served by Disney VoluntEARS to Coalition for the Homeless residents for an incredible Thanksgiving dinner that also has some Disney magic.
“Giving is who we are as part of the Disney family. We believe that everything we do to make magic can also make a difference, which is what I see happening when we provide Thanksgiving meals to those in need in our Central Florida community,” said Walt Disney World Culinary Director Gregg Hannon. “We all might have a different interpretation of Thanksgiving, but gratitude is something that we all have in common. As a culinarian working at Disney for 26 years, I am extremely proud to work for a company and be part of a team that gives back in such an important way.”
This year is extra special and Disney is expanding their Thanksgiving celebration with Coalition for the Homeless and inviting families from the Youth Center to join us for a very special preview screening of Disney’s Wish before it debuts to the world. One of the Disney chefs is also sprinkling some extra special magic at the Coalition for the Homeless Youth Center, helping kids decorate sweet treats that can be found across Walt Disney World. Disney VoluntEARS are also helping other nonprofit organizations across Central Florida make some holiday magic for even more families in our community, working alongside Heart of Florida United Way to pack more thousands of meal kits for families in Orange, Osceola and Seminole counties.
Here is the recipe for their pecan pie, which you can make in your own kitchen for Thanksgiving. Give it a shot and then share how it worked. To go the extra distance, give it a shot and then make two pies, one of which you can share with something. Check out the recipe here:
