VIDEOS/PHOTOS: New Droids Arrive at Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Guests visiting Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge today were treated with the arrival of three little droids that haven’t been seen before. The three droids could be seen in the area near the speeder garage. This is also the area where Hera and Chopper have been appearing in recent weeks. These droids resemble the BD-1 droid which first appeared in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The droids were operated by remote control with the operators seen nearby as they made their way around Black Spire Outpost on Batuu. A sign nearby could be seen that said “Droids in Training.”

Friend of Daps Magic Spencer F. was on hand as these new droids appeared at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. The following photos and videos were the fruits of this visit. Daps Magic has several of these videos and will be updating this article as they get rendered and uploaded!

The droids look like a droid that was recently revealed by Walt Disney Imagineering. Imagineering said about this new droid the following:

Designing a bipedal robotic character with impeccable balance is impressive, but simply isn’t enough when you consider Disney characters strut, prance, sneak, tromp, shuffle, hustle, saunter or meander. Disney Research recently unveiled a new robotic character prototype that combines procedural animation, modular hardware, and reinforcement learning to be able to design and program a walking character capable of these unique gaits and traits. Even more impressive? They can do this within months, not years! The ability to have a new robot design learn to imitate artistic motion in a simulation environment before it’s being built advances Imagineering’s innovation pipeline … and we can’t wait to see what more can be done with this exploration!

A video was also shared by Imagineering about what they are calling a “robotic character.”
