“Hocus Pocus 3” to See Anne Fletcher Return as Director

This last week in the New York Times, Walt Disney Studios president Sean Bailey confirmed that a third Hocus Pocus movie was being worked on by Disney. However, beyond acknowledging that it was in the works, nothing else was said about it. Now, according to The Wrap, Anne Fletcher is returning to direct Hocus Pocus 3. Fletcher directed last year’s Hocus Pocus 2. She will be joined by writer Jen D’Angelo in bringing the third movie of the franchise to life.

Currently, that is all that is known about Hocus Pocus 3. It isn’t known if the original Sanderson Sisters,  Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker, will be returning to reprise the roles they have brought to life in the previous two movies. It also isn’t known if any other cast members from either of the first two movies will be returning for this third go-round. The questions continue in regard to when this movie will be released (it’s quite a ways off still) and where it will be released. The original Hocus Pocus was released in theaters. Hocus Pocus 2 was released directly to Disney+.

The original Hocus Pocus told the story of the three Sanderson Sisters, who happened to be witches, being brought back to Salem, Massachusetts after being released into what was then the modern world. The only thing stopping the witches from becoming immortal is a high school boy, his sister, and his love interest who must keep them from getting their enchanted book. Decades later, three teenage girls find themselves up against a similar situation after they bring the Sanderson Sisters back to Salem once again.

Hocus Pocus, directed by Kenny Ortega, has become a Halloween favorite for fans. Hocus Pocus 2 was also received quite favorably. Fans undoubtedly hope that Hocus Pocus 3 also is a charm.
