Fantasmic! is to remain on an extended hiatus through at least Labor Day. This comes after the Maleficent dragon, commonly referred to as Murphy, went up in flames during a performance of the nighttime spectacular in April. The Disneyland Resort has given an update on the status of the return of the show as the summer season draws near.
“Our goal is to always deliver the best possible show for our guests. What that in mind, we’ve made the difficult decision to put “Fantasmic!” on hiatus through at least Labor Day. Teams are actively exploring alternate entertainment offerings for guests this summer and we look forward to sharing more soon.”
Disneyland also said that “We are taking this time to evaluate the show and explore opportunities to add new magic and touches for Guests to enjoy.”
Disneyland also said that the performers who have been impacted by the hiatus have been notified and there are teams working on their next steps. This could include which could be redeployment or cross-training opportunities.
The nighttime spectacular has been lighting up the Rivers of America at night since it first debuted in its original form in 1992. Since then, it has been replicated around the world. In 2017 a second version of the show debuted at Disneyland with some changes and upgrades.
Fantasmic! continues to be a popular show at the Disneyland Resort that is beloved by many. Its return is highly anticipated and will be welcomed by Disney fans when it does return. Daps Magic will continue to follow this story and provide updates as they become available.
