When Bob Iger announced that Frozen 3 was in the works during an earnings call, it came as a surprise for many who were listening. It also came as a surprise to the songwriters who wrote the music to the first two Frozen films.
In a recent interview with Collider, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez shared about their surprise to learn about the new Frozen film. The music they have created are an important part of the success formula for the franchise. They have written the mega hits for Disney like Let it Go, which earned an Oscar Award for Best Original Song.
Robert: It was [a surprise] to us, as well.
Kristen: They told us, the day of, and a little bit about what they’re thinking. It got us very excited. Now, we have to let the wheels of Hollywood do what they do, but we were very excited with their ideas.
Not a lot is known about Frozen 3 at this point other than it is in development and it appears that Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez will be returning to help create some musical moments. Previous songs they have written for the franchise including Love is an Open Door, Into the Unknown, and the aforementioned Let it Go all reached the US Billboard Hot 100. The movies have also done quite well at the box office so a third makes financial sense for Disney as well.
A release date has not been announced for this film. With how early it is in development, it could be quite a ways off. However, if Frozen 2 is any indicator, this new film will be worth the wait.
