The Disney Cruise Line has reached a milestone in the process of bringing the Disney Treasure to its fleet. This milestone was in the form of a keel laying ceremony. It took place at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany.
The keel laying ceremony is a time-honored maritime tradition. During the ceremony, a minted coin is placed under the keel of the ship for good fortune. In this case, the coin was a commemorative one that featured an etching of Captain Minnie Mouse wearing a new look that encapsulates the spirit of adventure that the ship is all about.
Philip Gennotte, portfolio project management executive, Walt Disney Imagineering Germany, was on hand for this special ceremony and milestone. When the ship is delivered to the Disney Cruise Line in 2024, it will be the sixth in the Disney fleet. It will have a beautiful Grand Hall that pays homage to Agrabah, as seen in Disney’s Aladdin. This will include a statue with Aladdin and Jasmine aboard the Magic Carpet.
The design concept for the Disney Treasure is that of adventure. It took its inspiration from Walt Disney’s lifelong love of exploration.
