The National Weather Service has issued a Tropical Storm Watch for areas in Florida that include Walt Disney World Resort. This includes both Orange and Osceola Counties. This is ahead of the arrival of Subtropical Storm Nicole later this week. This watch is active as of 10:00 AM EST on Monday but the bulk of the storm is expected to impact the area Wednesday evening and Thursday. However, expect that the weather will worsen on Tuesday. The worst of the storm is expected to hit on Thursday afternoon with winds at 40-50 MPH and gusts up to 65 MPH.
Subtropical Storm Nicole is not projected to be nearly as strong or as damaging as Hurricane Ian was earlier this fall. It is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane before making landfall in Florida between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning. The National Weather Service has indicated that there is the potential for flooding in the Orlando area due to rainfall. There is also the potential for isolated tornados.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is encouraging Florida residents to take precautions ahead of the storm’s arrival. “I encourage all Floridians to be prepared and make a plan in the event a storm impacts Florida,” DeSantis said in a news release.
At this time, Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any changes to park times or operations. Daps Magic will continue to watch this storm and provide updates as they become available.
