New Okapi Calf Born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

A new Okapi Calf has been born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The Walt Disney World Resort announced the arrival of this new calf just before World Okapi Day on October 18, 2022. The new calf is named Beni. He was born in July to Olivia, who is a first time mom. The pair have remained together backstage in a habitat so they can bond privately. Disney’s Animal Kingdom shared photos and video of the new arrival.

Both Beni and his mom Olivia will remain in their backstage habitat until Beni makes his debut on the Pemba Savanna in the next few months. His birth is yet another example of how Disney animal care experts continues to work with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums on Species Survival Plans to help ensure responsible breeding for endangered species.

The Okapi are one of many animals that can be seen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom when guests go aboard the Kilimanjaro Safaris. There they can go on an 18 minute safari and see the Okapi and other species that live in the 110 acres of the plains, shady forest landscapes, and rocky wetlands that make up the Kilimanjaro Safaris. In fact, there are 34 species living in this attraction!
