After ending his career at The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger has left the house of mouse and instead headed to the metaverse. His next step is with 3D avatar start-up Genies, which announced that Iger had joined its board on Monday.
Genies was founded in 2017. It has a mobile app that allows users to create their own custom digital avatars for social media profiles and also to be used in the metaverse. The company is led by 29-year-old Akash Nigam who said in a statement that he “can’t think of a better creative and product thinker than Bob to collaborate with.” The statement also said that it was looking to Iger to help grow the company as it looks to build “avatar ecosystems.”
“I’ve always been drawn to the intersection between technology and art, and Genies provides unique and compelling opportunities to harness the power of that combination to enable new forms of creativity, expression and communication,” Iger said in a statement, announcing his role at Genies.
Iger stepped down as Disney’s CEO in 2020. He continued on with the company as the Executive Chairman and also Chairman of the Board until the end of 2021 when he retired from the company.
