Disney’s Encanto continues to reign at the box office, although the competition was not nearly as stiff as the weekend before, With $12.7 million in earnings, Encanto took the top spot at the box office this weekend. After debuting on Thanksgiving weekend in the top spot, it continued to hold it even with a 53.2% drop in box office earnings from its opening weekend to this weekend.
Coming in second place was Ghostbusters: Afterlife which garnered $10.4 million over the weekend. The third place was House of Gucci with $6.8 million. Fourth place at the box office was Fathom Events’ Christmas with the Chosen: The Messengers that brought in $4.1 million over the weekend. In fifth place was Marvel Studios’ Eternals that brought in $3.9 million.
Disney’s Encanto is the story of a family named the Madrigals. This family lives in the mountains of Columbia in a charmed place called Encanto. This place is magical and has blessed every child in the family with a magical gift. That is every child but Mirabel. However, when Mirabel discovers that the magic around Encanto is in danger, she also might be the community’s last hope.
