A new baby mandrill was born on April 10, 2021 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The female baby mandrill was named Ivy. Guests who are visiting Disney’s Animal Kingdom and experiencing the Kilimanjaro Safari may get a glimpse of this new member of the Walt Disney World family.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom now is the home to four generations of mandrills. All of these mandrills come from the same family. Their lives actually mirror the same social system that would be found with mandrills in the wild. The birth of Ivy shows how Disney’s animal care experts continue to successfully partner with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums on Species Survival Plans to ensure that breeding is done responsibly for endangered species, like the mandrills.
