Gina Carano No Longer in Star Wars Universe

Gina Carano, who has been portraying Cara Dune in The Mandalorian, is no longer associated with Star Wars. Gizmodo is reporting that she has no future to be had with Star Wars after multiple offensive social media posts.

A statement released to io9 by Lucasfilm said, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

This comes as no surprise after months of controversial posts by Carano on social media. Most recently, Carano made a post on her Instagram story that was anti-Semitic. This led to the hashtag #FireGinaCarano trending on Twitter. While the post was later deleted, the repercussions remained.

It is unknown how this will impact this will have on future Star Wars projects she may have been slated to be a part of, including The Mandalorian. The character had been quite popular among fans but also increasingly controversial as Carano continued to post on social media. There were murmurs that the character could play a significant role moving forward in the Star Wars universe. This clearly isn’t the case anymore.

  1. I could not be more sad that Ms. Carano chose the direction she has taken. Her character was not just hugely attractive, it represented strong, fearless women, undoubtedly an inspiration to many young (and old) girls.
