Raya and the Last Dragon will be arriving in theaters and Disney+ Premiere Access on March 5th but soon Disney’s Animal Kingdom will also be celebrating its release. The Disney Parks Blog announced this week that there will soon be an animation experience and a sand sculpture to Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
The animation experience will be found by taking the train to the Conservation Station, or more specifically, the Animation Experience at Conservation Station. There, the long running tradition of Disney developing animal characters will be celebrated. This dates back to when animators studied a real-life deer to draw the character. Just like those animators did back in the day, aspiring artists can be inspired by the animals around them before taking pencil to paper.
In this case, guests will be taught how to draw characters from Raya and the Last Dragon starting on February 22nd. This includes Raya’s faithful friend Tuk Tuk.
Tuk Tuk is described as a “part-pill bug, part-pug, part-high speed off-road vehicle.” Tuk Tuk also has been Raya’s best friend since she could hold him in the palm of her hand. Along with learning to draw Tuk Tuk, guests will also get to see a behind-the-scenes look at what inspired the character. This look will be with Kelly Marie Tran (voice of Raya) and Awkwafina (voice of Sisu).
Over on Discovery Island Stage, a different kind of art will be created. This will be done with 40-tons of sand which will be created into a sculpture to celebrate this film. It will feature Raya, Tuk Tuk, Sisu the last dragon and also the Ongi. All of this set in the fantasy world of Kumandra. A team of two talented artists will work over 24 hours to create this display out of sand. They will be at work for guests to see between February 19 and 21. Once finished, the sculpture will be on display at Disney’s Animal Kingdom for a limited time through the end of March.
